  I went to Shir Tikvah to look into converting to Judaism, and my experience in this synagogue really cemented my desires to be part of the Jewish community.
  
  I'm always worried about going to new places and meeting new people because I'm transgender, queer, mentally ill, and autistic. There is a lot of stuff people can judge me on. But Shir Tikvah congregation was and is incredibly accepting towards me.
  
  Almost as soon as I walked in for the first time, a member of the congregation greeted me and helped me get situated before the service. Other people in the service were very friendly to me, and throughout the weeks I met many other queer and autistic people! One week, the service was led by a pair of women who were married to each other.
  
  I had never experienced such a welcoming and inclusive community before outside of queer-specific events, and that welcoming atmosphere keeps me coming back as often as I can.
  
  The services themselves are also a staple in my spiritual health regimen. Singing the prayers is sensory heaven, and others don't judge you if you don't know the words. The messages are focused on helping others and standing in solidarity as Jews with other marginalized groups, like Muslims and immigrants.
  
  To quote another convert who goes to Temple Israel, "it was the first time I went to a religious service and found myself agreeing with what was being said on the stage and didn't leave feeling like crap." I completely agree.
  
  Shir Tikvah is a wonderful congregation if you're looking for an accepting, welcoming, and activist Jewish community.
